dr. Se-il Hwang has spent over two decades performing liposuction and body contouring surgery in Seoul. He graduated from Hanyang University College of Medicine and completed his specialist training at Severance Hospital in Sinchon, one of Korea's major teaching hospitals.

His practice centers on a single question: what does this particular body need? Rather than approaching liposuction as fat removal by volume, he plans each case around proportion — how the treated area connects to the areas around it, and what the result will look like when the patient is dressed, standing, moving.

Training abroad

Much of the technique used at Pose Clinic comes from training outside Korea. Dr. Hwang completed body contouring training in Rome, Italy, and studied abdominal contouring under Dr. Mangubat in Seattle, USA — a surgeon widely recognized in the field of body sculpting. He has also completed the U.I.M.E Academy program and Dermo Aesthetic Academy training.

This matters for international patients in a practical sense: the surgical approach here isn't unfamiliar to Western standards, because much of it was learned within them.

Teaching and lectures

Dr. Hwang lectures regularly to other physicians, primarily on superficial-layer liposuction technique — the part of the procedure that determines whether the surface comes out smooth or uneven.

He has been an invited speaker at Ozaki Clinic in Tokyo, Japan, and has presented at physician seminars in Korea on superficial-layer liposuction technique. He completed advanced training at the Asan Medical Center rhinoplasty symposium and has appeared as a featured speaker at the I'm Doctor Medical Information Expo.

His lecture topics have also covered pharmacological approaches in body contouring, the mechanisms behind botulinum toxin and filler treatments, the principles of fat grafting, and laser and radiofrequency applications in dermatology.

Dr. Hwang has appeared on Korean television network tvN, discussing facial and calf contouring procedures including quick mini fat grafting techniques.

Approach to consultation

At Pose Clinic, Dr. Hwang conducts consultations himself. This is worth stating plainly because it isn't the norm — in many clinics, a coordinator handles the consultation and the patient meets the operating surgeon on the day of surgery.

Consultations begin with ultrasound measurement of the fat layer and body composition analysis. The purpose is to establish what's actually there before discussing what can be done about it. In some cases that assessment leads to a recommendation against surgery, or a recommendation to wait — a conversation Dr. Hwang considers part of the job rather than a lost case.
